My Story

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

Cressida Galea is a female activist born in Hamrun and lives in Santa Venera. Cressida is an Economist by profession, having successfully completed two degrees from the University of Malta: a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Economics, following which she pursued a Master’s Degree in Economics. 

Cressida received her early education at ‘St Theresa College, Sta. Venera Primary ‘C’ and at Our Lady Immaculate School, Hamrun.

As a university student, Cressida was actively involved in the student organisation ‘Pulse’. She was one of the candidates that contested the 2018 election for the University Student Council (KSU).

 

For the Common Good

Cressida participated in the event organized by zghazagh laburisti where several young people shared their ideas on different sectors such as economy, health, social welfare and environment, among others.
These ideas will be part of the ‘100 ideas’ initiative set up by the Labour Party. Cressida had the opportunity to present some of the ideas that were discussed during the event.

Strategies to Miminise Levels of Poverty.

Involved as an Economist in the research project commissioned by the Minister Hon. Carmelo Abela named ‘Introducing the Concept of Living Income in Malta to Minimise the Level of Poverty below the At-Risk-of-Poverty Rate’.

In this study, which was a very important study for social justice, an analysis on the poverty rate in Malta was performed and a thorough research on the different strategies to minimise the levels of poverty in Malta, particularly the Living Income concept, was conducted. 

Motivation and Enthusiasm to Actively Contribute.

Cressida’s political journey started in 2017 following her participation in the LEAD programme organised by Partit Laburista to increase female participation in Maltese Parliament. Such programme instilled in her the motivation and enthusiasm to actively contribute and involve herself in the local political sphere.

Cressida was a member of the Economic Policy Forum entitled ‘Gid li jasal ghand kulhadd’ launched by Partit Laburista and also contributed towards the research entitled “Strategies to Miminise Levels of Poverty: Introducing the Concept of Living Income in Malta to Minimise the Level of Poverty below the At-Risk-of-Poverty Rate” commissioned by the Office of the Prime Minister.

As a university student, Cressida was actively involved in the student organisation ‘Pulse’. She was one of the candidates that contested the 2018 election for the University Student Council (KSU) for the position of Finance Officer.
